First there were gardens which provided produce to the booming mill town, Big River, today called Mendocino. Then arose The Stanford Inn by the Sea and Big River Nurseries, the Stanfords’ California Certified Organic Farm. The inn’s ancient apple and pear trees brought around Cape Horn provide shelter to the inns’ llamas and horses. Most evenings, meals are inspired by the inns gardens and are vegetarian.
